Dolphins to do battle on Bribie
The round 7 clash between the Village Motors Redcliffe Dolphins and Wynnum Manly Seagulls junior representative sides takes place on Bribie Island this weekend.
The Warrigals, celebrating their 30th anniversary as a junior rugby league club will host the match on behalf of the Dolphins.
"Bribie are a progressive club with a strong forward thinking committee who were keen to host a game, we had no problems helping with their request," Dolphins Development Manager Steve Peoples said.
The two clubs have had a connection long before it was formalised a few years ago with players such Bevan Canning, Brett Trudgett, Ben Roedder, Matt Gillett, Todd Parnell, Jack Reed and Dane Hogan playing junior or senior football with the Dolphins.
The Dolphins will be looking to their Bribie contingent of Deacon Fletcher, Alex Albert and Sam Leach to have big games in front of their home crowd.
All three have have been in exceptional form in recent weeks and are key players in their sides.
"We can't fault the attitude of any of the boys that have come down from Bribie, they have done everything required with an excellent work ethic and attitude.
They are a credit to their club and we wish them well when they return to Bribie after these competitions are finished," Peoples said.
In Mal Meninga Cup it is first versus last but the Dolphins won't be taking anything for granted.
Village Motors Dolphins Mal Meninga Cup Assistant Coach Tony Vidler said his side are treating it like a semi final.
"We are looking for a good solid hit out before the semi finals and if we don't give Wynnum the respect they deserve it could be a long day at the office," he said.
In Cyril Connell Cup the Dolphins are out of semi final contention but are determined to finish the year on a high.
It is a season of what might have been for the Dolphins who have been competitive in every match this season.
"We have been in the contest but haven't been able to put sides away," Assistant Coach Steve Grant said.
The Village Motors Dolphins would like to thank Bribie Island for their continued support with these competitions and urge anybody that wants to see some quality football to make make their way out to Bernie Foley Oval this Saturday afternoon.
