Roberts named Club Captain
Dolphins stalwart Michael Roberts has been given the honour of being named Club Captain for season 2010.
"This is a great honour for me and something I'm very proud of," he said.
Roberts joined the Dolphins in 1997 as a colt straight out of St.Patrick's High school in Mackay.
With mostly a soccer background in his juniors the former Queensland mid fielder won the Player of the Year award in the Anthony Griffin coached premiership winning Colt's side.
The following season 1998, he made his first grade debut against the Gold Coast at Dolphin Oval playing five-eighth.
Roberts's list of achievements makes you wonder why he never got that many opportunities at a higher level.
Three times Qld Cup player of the year, Qld Residents player, City Representative, Dolphins player of the year and the list goes on.
"I played a few games for the Broncos, I would've liked to get a few more opportunities but it wasn't meant to be."
"But I am very proud of what I have achieved here, and to do it at the same club my dad and uncle played for makes it more special," he added.
In 2007 Roberts was named in the Greatest ever Dolphins side beating the likes of internationals Greg Oliphant and Mark Murray for the coveted halfback position.
Michael has played in seven grand finals for the Dolphins winning four and has played a total of 269 games for the club.
