Dolphins go down to Broncos
The Redcliffe Dolphins went down to the Brisbane Broncos 30-20 in a trial on Saturday night.
The Broncos shot out the gates to lead 20-0 early.
Broncos captain Darren Lockyer opened the scoring when he threw a dummy and jinked his way over early after the Dolphins did well holding Corey Parker up over the line.
Not long after Israel Folau put Denan Kemp in space and he touched down out wide.
Next it was Sam Thaiday who crashed his way over through the Dolphins defence.
Then when Antonio Winterstein hit a gap on the end of a set play with 10 minutes left in the half the Broncos led 20-0.
It wasn't looking good for the Dolphins but to their credit, with hooker Mick Roberts leading the way the Dolphins hit back.
Crossing for two tries in the space of three minutes just before half time to trail Brisbane 20-8 at the break.
Redcliffe showed they were not going to lay down when hooker Roberts scored just seven minutes into the second half to reduce the margin to 20-14.
Roberts and fullback Ryan Cullen, twins on the field with their bald heads and slight builds combined well to trouble Brisbane several times.
Cullen unlucky not to tie the scores midway through the second half when he spilled a Roberts grubber under the posts.
Then the Dolphins scored a try just before the fulltime siren to Mitch Rivett off a Mick Roberts bomb that made it interesting.
Rivett - who has spent the off-season training with the Broncos picked up two tries for the Dolphins.
